I agree, but it was definitely a film that would have been better if studio execs hadn’t kept meddling with it.

All the same, it did cast Vin Diesel as a robot who didn’t know English – pretty much the role he was born to play.

Innovation is generally despised in the context of “family” films. Look at Disney’s animation in the mid to late 1990s – the second that they started deviating from the basic Little Mermaid formula, people stopped buying tickets.

There’s no reason to try to win awards when any piece of garbage with talking animals is guaranteed to make $100 million.
