Ben Kingsley was inspired in the Love Guru. You sad, wannabe film critics just didn’t get it. Have you not heard of tongue-in-cheek humour. Thefilm served to show his amazing versatility…Light hearted inspired humour.
But then some people don’t want to laugh.

robin williams did great! yes i do understand pervert but still

league of extrodinary gentlemen was just an outstanding movie. nuff said

Arnold Schwarzenegger was amazing as Mr. Freeze

Faye Dunaway was amazing as well i loved that movie and it is one movie that me and my mother watch we laugh and i call her mommie dearest when she makes me mad

Scott, I think the only reason that Kingsley is at #10 is because it’s still too early to see what the ramifications will be. This is a move that Kingsley will, as likely as not, get away with, whereas Cuba managed to kill a promising career in one fell swoop with Boat Trip.

In five years, if we see Ben Kingsley out on the streets…we’ll have to revise the list.

I’d put Ben Kingsley at number one. Not only is the role SO far beneath him, it’s offensive to boot.

Also, if Vanilla Ice ever showed up in JCW (yes, I knew what you were referring to…) I’d go all the way to Detroit to watch it.

I dunno, G, I really dug LXG as a guilty pleasure. It's the same sort of unabashed, gleeful literary desecration you get in Van Helsing, but with less overt stupidity. Ruth, I agree to an extent on Connery, but his presence on lists like this really is proof that he did, in fact, have a remarkable career. And really, he was what made LXG watchable (and memorable enough to end up on lists like this), which is really quite remarkable in itself.

So don’t you, to some extent, minimize the acting accomplishments of Sean Connery by putting him in this category and reminding people that this was his final film? People will say, “Yes he had a remarkable career, but what about that last role?”

Begiles, agreed on the entertainment value. I think what is particularly embarrassing about it, however, is that Dunaway never intended it to be ‘entertaining’ in the way in which it became. If the performance is brilliant, it is probably due to a happy accident rather than any premeditation on Dunaway’s part. And because this film officially torpedoed her career, I’m guessing Dunaway wouldn’t consider the accident ‘happy’ at all.

I wouldn’t say Faye Dunaway’s performance in Mommie Dearest was anything less than brilliant. Sure she was over acting but when you’re portraying a larger than life character like Joan Crawford does the role call for anything less than overt, extravagant over-acting? Maybe not in terms of the cinematic integrity of the movie, but the entertainment value was choice.

I find it especially ironic that Connery turned down the role of Gandalf in Lord of the Rings and Morpheus in The Matrix because the stories were too confusing.

Then he turns around and takes this role because of it.

Sad.

Yeah, Graham, they are fantastic. Alan Moore is a spectacular writer. It’s pretty sad to see something like that get trashed on the big screen in such an awful way.

Connery himself isn’t terrible in the film, but the fact that that was his last film role (probably his last forever) is the height of embarrassment.

You know, the League of Extraordinary Gentleman comic books are fantastic. And the writer who wrote the script is a well-regarded comic book guy (I haven’t read much of his stuff).

So, you know, I don’t think he made a bad choice. They just ended up making a bad movie.

Also, I don’t think it’s worth a rental – ie I couldn’t get through 10 minutes of it.
