The official podcast of MovieZeal.com, where film is always best discussed under the gentle influence of fine wine (as fine as $10 will get you). Each week Evan, Heather, and Luke pick a theme, discuss a theatrical release based on that theme, pop the cork and drink a wine that fits said theme, and finally subject one another to The Gauntlet, where forcing others to watch painful films nets you fabulous prizes. There is not anything else on the internets like it (literally).

Okay Craig, I guess I can't argue with that...the thing just didn't make me laugh, though. (In fact, I think the thought bubble sequence I reference above was the first and last time I laughed.)

You're clearly right that this isn't the worst movie of the year (<i>The Spiderwick Chronicles, Space Chimps, The Strangers</i>, and <i>Shutter</i> are all easily above it on that list, as far as I'm concerned). I wasn't particularly miserable throughout the experience of watching it (I had a big bucket of popcorn, after all), but I just felt empty when it was over, and the more I thought about it, the more it fell apart for me.

...So yeah, not the worst film. But far from the best (hence my comment about "still trying to figure out what I disliked so much about it").

It made me laugh and it had Olivia Thirlby which puts it above Pineapple Express, Hulk, Indiana Jones, Rambo, Semi-Pro and a lot of other movies I've seen this year.

yeah, this one is safe to skip. I like the way Luke put this review together, and it's forceful.

Thanks, Sam.

I haven't read any other reviews yet, but I did notice that Ebert gave it 3/4. I know that guy likes nearly everything, but I figured most other critics would like this one as well. Guess I was wrong.

Actually Luke, you will be most surprised to know that the film has not received good reviews at all from the important people. It's funny that this was just posted, as I was going to chance a late show at my Montclair multiplex tonite, but I think my "wavering" status has just been decided, so to speak. I won't rush to see it.
Nice job here with that "numbered" technique. Perceptive and original essay. Congratulations.
