Comments on: The Top 10 Most Memorable Coen Brothers Scenes

The official podcast of MovieZeal.com, where film is always best discussed under the gentle influence of fine wine (as fine as $10 will get you). Each week Evan, Heather, and Luke pick a theme, discuss a theatrical release based on that theme, pop the cork and drink a wine that fits said theme, and finally subject one another to The Gauntlet, where forcing others to watch painful films nets you fabulous prizes. There is not anything else on the internets like it (literally).

Fantastic post. I love the showdown with the nihilists, that's one of my favorite movie scenes ever.

Thanks for dropping by, Matt. Yeah, it is a brilliant character introduction, probably made even more so because the character has absolutely no bearing on the plot whatsoever.

Great list of some terrific scenes. I hadn't actually seen all of them before so thanks for giving me some new films to check out.

I'm with Fletch on the Jesus scene; that's one of the most succinctly brilliant character introductions in any movie, ever.

I'm not so sure we're thinking of the same line, Evan. While the one you're alluding to is great (probably better), I love the one of Walter just saying "xxxxxxx Quintana...that creep can roll..."

Thanks all, especially to everyone who contributed. The original guest articles and features are what really made the month, in my opinion.

Actually, Fletch, the line you're talking about doesn't come until another 1-2 minutes past where the clip ends, and in the midst of that The Dude and Walter discuss other plot details that aren't related to Jesus. That's why I cut the clip short.

And on Fargo, the roadside shootings were certainly a contender, but I felt that the hotel shootout from No Country was a better example of the same kind of scene. And as I went through Fargo, I realized that the film was memorable as a whole, but that isolated scenes weren't as much. The Coens often direct their films as a series of vignettes, but Fargo is much more cohesive.

Agreed on the congrats - it's been a well planned and executed month here, with some terrific writing and analysis. This makes for a fun way to top it off.

Despite the lack of depth, I almost have to go with the Jesus clip as my favorite. It's so goddamn perfect. My only gripe? That clip ends right before the best line! (which I won't repeat here, this being a family blog and all. ;) )

Also - just one from Fargo? I know there's some stiff competition, but that seems shocking...
