The MovieZeal Podcast – Episode 7 – Religious Docs

By Evan Derrick

Another edition of our bi-weekly podcast which I would love to be weekly, if only I had an extra clone to do all the necessary work. But the darn things start to break down after two months and get all emotional. Very messy business, clones.

On this episode you can find, amongst other things:

- About as evenhanded a review of Bill Maher’s Religulous as you are likely to find from three people who profess faith.
- We read a comment on the air from Andrew Wyatt (hope you don’t mind, Andrew) about Larry Charles’ editing technique.
- We discover that adultery-free kosher wine is much better than the alternative.
- Luke watches the excellent doc Hell House, and an opinionated free-for-all on the morality of said “hell houses” follows.

We dare you not to be at least a teensy-weensy bit offended. Email us at podcast [at] moviezeal [dot] com if you are.

Show Notes
-
You can purchase Barkan Classic Sauvignon Blanc here.
- If you happen to have a Netflix account, Hell House can currently be streamed for free in their instant viewing program.
- The hell house that we mention in which Bill Maher has starred is called Hollywood Hellhouse. You can find a montage of the different actors who have played Satan over the years, including Maher, David Cross, Penn of Penn & Teller, and others, here. Be forewarned that there is some potentially offensive material in the clip.

Penn does Satan? That sounds friggin’ awesome.

(BTW, Bullshit! is required viewing for all aspiring skeptics.) :)

There is something about Penn & Teller that grates on me even more than Maher does. Funny showmen, but as soon as they get into politics/ideology my eyes roll back up into my brain cavity.

Great podcast, y’all. Hellhouse is shocking and disturbing to me, and I fully expected to be offended by Religulou. But I gotta say that you guys didn’t really offend me in your podcast. ;) And it sounds like Religulou won’t offend me either.

So does my typo due to baby in my lap count as another mispronunciation of that silly movie title?
