But I think the heroic effort by Fiennes does indeed pay off and elevate this film above numerous others corset-dramas (here is a new term for film criticism, right here). Not only that, but I also loved the fact that the characters as well as their actions and the motivations behind them were real instead of overtly dramatic. The realism that the people behind this project extends beyond the sets and costumes and reaches more essential elements of a film, which is, to me, something that always deserves praise. Keira Knightley has become the go-to girl for period pictures.
