I saw this film after both you and Ebert gave it top marks. Thank you for putting the idea in my head: it was absolutely gorgeous and I adored it.

Truly a beautiful film, one of the best of this year, if it’s to be counted as an ‘08 release. A shame about the Academy rules barring it from competition.

It’s on track to making it onto an end of the year Top 10 list. It currently resides at 3rd or 4th for me, personally, so there would have to be a load of stunning pictures this fall in order to unseat it.

A wonderful review for a film that epitomizes that less is more. Your enthusiasm shines through, and I sahre it for this film, which at this point must surely rate as one of the best of the year.

Good review Evan, I hope all of your readers follow your lead and find this movie.

It’s the kind of foreign movie that makes me love foreign movies. It’s so simple and subtle and it avoids all of the pumped up plot contrivances and complications an American movie would have. It’s just about a certain group of characters in an unusual time and place and seeing what enlightenment comes from letting them interact.

As you say, the basic humanity comes pouring through and it’s surprisingly devoid of politics. For the better.

Really excellent review, Evan. Your honesty is bold and it also speaks to how affecting this movie is.

Here’s what I’ve tied it down to: “Perhaps…divides in a way I wouldn’t have thought possible.” That paragraph says it all. As someone who passionately believes in the power of film, I can only hope for the future…
