But the silver spoon he finds is that his soul? I was mistaking the reptiles as his soul. Over all one of nicholas cages best performances, without him this movie would've been nothing imo. This was one of the things that bothered me about the film. When the reptiles would show up before or after a scene had been completed and the camera would linger on it. If it were a hallucination on Cage's part, it probably would have been more effective during the scene, during tense situations than after they had passed. Like you said though, Cage's performance is the saving grace for this film.
