The official podcast of MovieZeal.com, where film is always best discussed under the gentle influence of fine wine (as fine as $10 will get you). Each week Evan, Heather, and Luke pick a theme, discuss a theatrical release based on that theme, pop the cork and drink a wine that fits said theme, and finally subject one another to The Gauntlet, where forcing others to watch painful films nets you fabulous prizes. There is not anything else on the internets like it (literally).

Hey hey hey now. :) I was out on a business trip.

As way of excuse, I've been waiting until I could see it a second time. The film is too grand, too complex, and too phenomenal to give it any less than it deserves. I felt I couldn't do it justice with a single pass. Hopefully that will be rectified before the weekend is here, and I'll have a review up by then.

TDK is definitely an exception to the rule.

By the way, this was a great review, Luke. You managed to make a piece on a throwaway flick actually worthwhile.

Well, he does have two kids. It's also quite a complicated film to do justice to in a review, IMO.

Well Fletch...since MZ started, I've made an effort to catch at least one new release a week. The only new release that interested me at all this week was The Dark Knight and both of my MZ colleagues were already slobbering over that one. (Speaking of which, where's the review, guys? Get on the batball!)

So I played a little game that I enjoy. There were four films that MZ hadn't reviewed yet showing at a local theater, so without looking at a showtime schedule, I drove down and saw whichever one was starting soonest, which turned out to be this one.

Anyway, I tend to think that if you never review a bad film, your positive reviews become kinda meaningless. And someone in the blogosphere has to warn others of the pitfalls of the multiplex. And, since I tend to enjoy really bad movies, I'm happy to be that person.

What, pray tell, brought you to the theater in the first place?

I almost want to see it to play the "count the penis jokes" game. Almost.

Short of being strapped to a chair with my eyelids peeled, I will never, ever see this.

Yeah Whitney, I thought about pointing out the terrible-ness of the animation in that review, but it just felt like kicking the movie while it was down. Honestly, I'm sure they did the best they could with a tiny budget and studio execs breathing down the backs of their necks 24-7. Not that that makes it any more watchable, or anything.

Thanks, Daniel. It's always interesting to see what old men come up with when they ask themselves "What do kids like?" The correct answer is, "They like good movies, just like everyone else," but I guess those are hard to make.

Thadd, there's nothing in this film that even approaches the wit of Animaniacs (although, as I've said, the Great Cloud of Id sequence is pretty funny). To be honest with you, when I wrote that paragraph, I was thinking about DuckTales, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and The Super Mario Bros. Super Show...I'm pretty sure all of those had space, cowboy, pirate, and time travel episodes. I think.

Wow, that's too bad. I'm so glad I grew up in the 90's. Tell me though, if it plays like the episode of my favorite cartoon show where they go to space, is there a line as good as, "Do you have powedered orange juice?" "Bleck! Oh heavens, no! Here, try some tang."?

Great review (I'll take your word for the movie's star rating), especially your point about WALL-E not featuring aliens.

That animation looks so much like iClone...which a chimp could, literally, probably use. At least, the 9-year-olds I teach at summer camp can do it.
