The official podcast of MovieZeal.com, where film is always best discussed under the gentle influence of fine wine (as fine as $10 will get you). Each week Evan, Heather, and Luke pick a theme, discuss a theatrical release based on that theme, pop the cork and drink a wine that fits said theme, and finally subject one another to The Gauntlet, where forcing others to watch painful films nets you fabulous prizes. There is not anything else on the internets like it (literally).

We haven't really standardized the scale, and I think you need to take a movie on its own terms. This one, for instance, is pretty much two hours of dumb, bloody action--but that's all it's trying to be. I'm not about to condemn it because it's not All the President's Men.

Really, I try to use the stars to indicate (a) how much I enjoyed the film and (b) how much I would recommend it to others. This was a film I enjoyed somewhat, and would recommend to certain people--hence, it gets three out of five stars, which is barely over half of them.

13-year-old boys the world over thank you for the review. Actually, I'd say this seems to be aimed straight at the coveted 18-25-year-old demographic so beloved of advertisers, but since I'm never going to see it, I'll take your word.

One thing has me confused, though ... you call it "a bad movie-lover's dream" and say that it "hits slightly higher on the target than the mind-numbingly stupid level it aims for" the give it a three out of five star rating. It's got me wondering: what is your scale? Is two-stars "mind-numbingly stupid?" If so, I'd hate to see a one-star flick ...
