The official podcast of MovieZeal.com, where film is always best discussed under the gentle influence of fine wine (as fine as $10 will get you). Each week Evan, Heather, and Luke pick a theme, discuss a theatrical release based on that theme, pop the cork and drink a wine that fits said theme, and finally subject one another to The Gauntlet, where forcing others to watch painful films nets you fabulous prizes. There is not anything else on the internets like it (literally).

I would agree that Isla Fisher is a delight. Hers is a very sexy and nuanced performance. She was similarly goofy in Wedding Crashers but is given a little more room to run in this film.

Aloha,

As always, I must compliment you on a fine review, Luke. When it comes to reading good film criticism, you workaholics at MovieZeal have yet to let me down. Now, how about giving us that review of "The Dark Knight"? Just kidding. Take your time. No rush, really.

I just saw this tonight (thank heavens for the little red envelope named Netflix), and although I found myself entertained, I did find myself a bit grating at Abigail Breslin, who plays the daughter. Ryan Reynolds is his usual charming, befuddled self, and the three lead actresses turn in nice work, although it probably didn't put a large amount of strain on their talents.

I do agree with your perspective on the film's ending, but then again, we ARE talking about a Romantic Comedy here, perhaps the very definition of cliché. Kudos to your "Annie Hall" and "When Harry Met Sally" observation. Although I must admit I enjoyed the latter more than the former, I can venture to say that in order to truly appreciate the genre, you should at least see both.

Despite its flaws, it remains an entertaining film, and it passes my self-imposed, "Critic's Golden Rule": Would I recommend this film to a friend?

Definitely, Maybe. :D

Mahalo,

I don't usually go for romantic comedies so this one was a nice little surprise. Nothing life changing or anything, but a decent time at the movies.

I especially liked Isla Fisher.
