The official podcast of MovieZeal.com, where film is always best discussed under the gentle influence of fine wine (as fine as $10 will get you). Each week Evan, Heather, and Luke pick a theme, discuss a theatrical release based on that theme, pop the cork and drink a wine that fits said theme, and finally subject one another to The Gauntlet, where forcing others to watch painful films nets you fabulous prizes. There is not anything else on the internets like it (literally).

I wanted to write you the very small observation just to give many thanks once again for the marvelous suggestions you have provided here. It was quite tremendously open-handed with people like you to offer without restraint what some people would've offered for sale as an electronic book in making some money on their own, even more so considering that you might well have done it in the event you considered necessary. The tactics also worked to become good way to fully grasp the rest have similar dreams just as my personal own to grasp great deal more on the topic of this condition. I believe there are millions of more pleasant instances in the future for individuals that looked over your website.

Seriously, if they are going to remake "Rebecca" please get someone who can act! I beg you. Do not get one of these movie star wall flower wannabees. I doubt there are many actresses who can actually play this role. Try and find someone British. They usually manage to pull these types of movies of.

In that scene the shoot of the "reconstruction" of the moment she died is amazing. Really i never feel it was necessary any flash backs. The last sequence is amazing also! I love the idea of start the film with the Rebecca's water and finish with her fire.
nice review Phillip

I would love Keira as second Mrs. DeWinter! She has the awkwardness needed for the role, the shyness and frailty. Key for the role is to come off homely and needy, with some girlish charm. The first Mrs. DeWinter needs to be someone va-va-voom-y, like Joan from Mad Men with her hair dyed black.

I am 2 chapters away from finishing this book and I LOVE it! For days now I have been wishing that SOMEBODY would make a movie out of it. Well, I see they did! Hollywood: please, please, please only remake this movie if you can do it justice. Keira Knightly? She is MUCH too sophisticated to play the 2nd Mrs. de Winter.

Keira Knightly can pose for pictures all she wants, just keep her away from remakes of already awesome films! (Okay, so I'm a little bitter still about Pride and Prejudice. You'll never be Elizabeth Bennet, Keira! Never!)

Keira Knightly ... you're talking about Keira Knightly, right? The anorexic pirate play-thing, remaking Rebecca, Hitch's only Best Picture Oscar Winner?

(falls over backwards in rocker, flailing)

Yes, it's over-the-top melodramatic. Yes, the exposition gets tiresome. But it's one of Hitchcock's most beautiful films ... striking back and white cinematography; creepy, paranoid camera work. Charming, schlocky performances by actors with real weight.

It's too bad Criterion's fine version is out of print.

By the way, Phillip: a fine review

It is the flashbacks the elevate Lost above bland mediocrity, that's true.

I grew tired of the flashbacks in The DaVinci Code as well, but when used sparingly I think they could work for Rebecca. Of course, I haven't read the novel so I can't be too sure.

Maybe I'm calling for flashbacks just because I'm a Lost fan. ;-)

It's interesting to me that you call for a remake of this one with more visual flashbacks, as I tend to think that modern Hollywood generally overuses flashbacks to a fault. An obvious example, I think, is Ron Howard's The DaVinci Code, which feels the need to show a detailed flashback every single time something in the past is mentioned - which robs the book of whatever tension and mystery it has (which is, admittedly, very little).
