The official podcast of MovieZeal.com, where film is always best discussed under the gentle influence of fine wine (as fine as $10 will get you). Each week Evan, Heather, and Luke pick a theme, discuss a theatrical release based on that theme, pop the cork and drink a wine that fits said theme, and finally subject one another to The Gauntlet, where forcing others to watch painful films nets you fabulous prizes. There is not anything else on the internets like it (literally).

Also, does anyone think these indie bands are going to be celebrated in 5, let alone 40, years like the titans of the 60s and 70s? (and lest anyone peg me as an aging boomer, I'm 24)

I'm so sick of this whole scene, but I'm sick of the strident anti-scenesters too. I'd rather just ignore it and hope it goes away. So I guess I'll go back to doing that now.

Formulaic for sure, but I was charmed by Cera and Dennings and it made me laugh. Case closed.

It almost redeemed my weekend after the abysmal "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People"

I thought I might be reading too much into it but since others see it I don't feel bad.

If I was in the Nick and Nora marketing department, making all that scratch, shame would be the last thing on my mind.

It's currently sitting at a 67% on RottenTomatoes, which is mildly favorable. I have a sneaky suspicion that I would be with Luke on this one, however - he tends to love the rom-coms, and if he's not digging it, something must be askew.

You're right, Film-Book, about the shameless <i>Juno</i> aping this one is doing - marketing departments could care less how they the job done, as long as it results in the film being in the black rather than the red (but that's just the way it goes).

I read a review for this flick in Newsweekly praising the film. It looks as though I might have to see this to make up my own mind.

What's sad is that they are really trying to make a "Juno Connection". They cast the same lead from that film and the lettering for the title is in the same script as Juno. Subtle.

I had no idea about that original ending to Pretty Woman. Money, and ticket sales, make the world go round.

Nice piece here Luke. For someone who appreciates music as much as you do, it's bold to see you dumping cold water over the relevancy of musical preference. But I agree - not the foundation for a lasting relationship. Then again, aren't all romantic comedies based on ridiculously contrived foundations? As in, if each of the films in the genre had a "3 Months Later" coda after the finale, all of the couples would be split up and bitter about it? Ah, but no one wants to see movies that end like that (there are relatively few). In fact, the original ending to <i>Pretty Woman</i> had Julia Roberts and Richard Gere sadly parting ways, but it tested so poorly with focus groups that they reshot the ending to be more "happy." Gotta love the power of the masses (and the almighty dollar).

Also, I love Michael Cera (<i>Arrested Development</i>, I heart you), but the guy is going to burn out if he's not careful. Is his character in this one any different than his characters in all of his other films?
