The official podcast of MovieZeal.com, where film is always best discussed under the gentle influence of fine wine (as fine as $10 will get you). Each week Evan, Heather, and Luke pick a theme, discuss a theatrical release based on that theme, pop the cork and drink a wine that fits said theme, and finally subject one another to The Gauntlet, where forcing others to watch painful films nets you fabulous prizes. There is not anything else on the internets like it (literally).

Oh, I can't stand Harry Potter, Evan. He's not very smart. His girlfriend is boring. He never does anything heroic. And he always gets bailed out by Hermione.

Great write up Phillip, you took me right there with you when you were are little boy. It was kind of weird... like I was the ghost of Christmas past voyeuring into your Gma's basement with you. :P

Yeah, gone are the days of the hero, now it's the anti-hero. But like Evan says, the pendulum will swing back.

I think people are just getting lazy in coming up with names for generations. For a while, people tried to call Gen Y the "Digital Generation," but it never really caught on...

You know, the pendulum swings back and forth on a fairly regular basis. The clear good and evil of Star Wars was an answer to the amorality of American cinema during the 60s and 70s, with Indiana being a later response. Things will swing back again.

However, I would say that Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings both provide strong heroes and clean notions of good and evil to Generation Z (is that really what we're calling them?). For every Pulp Fiction there will always be an Indiana somewhere.
