FREE DVD Giveaway of “Transsiberian”
Why? Because we like you guys. Really. We do. And First Look Studios has graciously agreed to give a copy of Transsiberian away to one super-duper-awesome-special MovieZeal reader. The film stars Ben Kingsley, Woody Harrelson, and Emily Mortimer; it’s a twisty little neo-noir thriller set in the Siberian wilderness; it’s directed by Brad Anderson, who’s last film was the extremely underrated The Machinist; and Luke gave it a nice 3 1/2 stars in his review.
In order to be eligible, just leave a comment on this post and be sure to use a valid email address. That’s it. Just leave a comment (duplicate comments will be punished with fire & brimstone, however). We’ll randomly select one of the entries and announce the winner a week from today. Piece. ‘O. Cake.
You can find more information on the film at its official website and you can watch the wicked-cool trailer here. Transsiberian hits DVD and Blu-ray on November 4th, a week from today.

Nothing gets your attention like having “FREE DVD” in the title. In all caps no less.

POSSIBLE HYPOTHETICAL SPOILER ALERTS
I have to say that I thought this looked like total garbage. In retrospect, I wonder if the film was not at fault, but rather the trailer.
First of all, I don’t know how many twists this one has, but the fact that Ben Kingsley is not a legit cop is one that could have been left out. Sure, maybe we would have inferred it, but you might as well just put “spoiler alert” in front of your trailer if you’re going to do crap like that.
Secondly (and possibly, again, this is worse in the trailer than the film) when Emily Mortimer asks Kingsley “Who are the bad guys?” he responds with “People who look innocent but are really not.” The trailer seems to be playing this straight – we’re supposed to think that the other couple looks innocent but isn’t really. But if so, what’s with all the ominous shots of them smoking, looking furtive, being suspiciously photographed by Emily Mortimer, and just generally looking evil? Unless Woody Harrelson (far-fetched hypothetical spoiler alert) turns out to be the bad guy the whole time, everyone who could be a bad guy in this movie looks pretty, well, not innocent. In which case, don’t use that line to introduce the third act of your trailer!
EVAN: So G, would you like me to consider your comment an entry for the DVD?
Hell yeah I’ll take it. If I win it, I’ll watch it. And you can look forward to my exciting feature: Ways in Which Transsiberian Did and/or Did Not Diverge From Its Trailer, Which I Personally Thought Was Pretty Crummy Looking.
Which will probably be my only post in the next 4 months.

Another one of those films that never made it to my neck of the woods. *Sigh* I need to live closer than 40 miles away from the nearest art house theater.

Interesting how many people are interested in this movie. I thought Luke, Matt Lucas and I were the only ones who liked it.

Does winning the noir box-set (which I still need to claim…) preclude me? I was hoping to see this one after I saw that the main girl was in Lars and the Real Girl (which I now accidentally own via Blockbuster since I was unfortunately lazy/busy)
EVAN: Nope, you’re still eligible for this one as well.
