The official podcast of MovieZeal.com, where film is always best discussed under the gentle influence of fine wine (as fine as $10 will get you). Each week Evan, Heather, and Luke pick a theme, discuss a theatrical release based on that theme, pop the cork and drink a wine that fits said theme, and finally subject one another to The Gauntlet, where forcing others to watch painful films nets you fabulous prizes. There is not anything else on the internets like it (literally).

I was hoping for greatness with Baby Mama until I heard Fey didn't write it. It did an excellent job proving Fey and Poehler can carry a film which should lead to bigger and better films. I can see them as the next big success a la Apatow.

Rachel, I had the exact same reaction when I heard that Tina Fey didn't write the script. A friend e-mailed me that bit of info days before the opening and I was pretty bummed.

But I was pleasantly surprised. That could be part of my over-enthusiasm for this film, b/c I thought it was pretty great. Not flawless, but I felt McCullers, Poehler, and Fey got in there and said something about class. And I wasn't expecting that. It especially hit me when Fey's character says to Poehler's "you're just white trash" and Poehler mutters "I deserve that" and Romany Malco defends "No you don't". I was actually pretty moved by that scene.

No need to be ashamed. We don't judge here. :)

Actually, Mean Girls is a favorite of mine as well.

I was really looking forward to Baby Mama, till I realized Fey didn't write it. Then it went on my "Maybe I'll Rent It Someday List."

As for Mean Girls, I don't normally admit it outloud, but I love that movie, even LiLo. But don't tell anyone, b/c it's a deep, dark secret.

I'm okay with counting Mean Girls as an SNL movie. That ups their average a bit, and I'm feeling generous.

It's also proof that if you keep Lindsey Lohan off heroin, she's not a bad actress...

Tina Fey and Amy Poehler are two of my absolute favorite actors from SNL, and that's enough for me to want to see this. (By the way, does Mean Girls count as an SNL flick? Because it's pretty stinkin' awesome.)

It's too bad this didn't make the leap to greatness. It seems like comedies have a hard time staying tight enough while not beating us to death with the same joke (a la Meet the Fockers... ugh.).
